However, Blaine is unable to realize his dream of being a champion because he can't seem to run straight ahead and finish the race due to his fixation on his spectaculary cool, super-sized, heavy watch. Similarly, sin weighs us down and causes us to careen out of control toward our inevitable doom. But even though many go to church (track team members) and try hard to be good people, the presence of sin in our lives separates us from God. There is absolutely nothing we can do to remove our sin — only Jesus Christ can do that. In this, Blaine is faced with the same problem — he needs a savior.
